AMC is internationally renowned for its expertise in HIV, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders and gastroenterology. At its premises several dedicated research institutes such as the NIN (Netherlands Institute for Neurosciences) and the medical department of the Royal Tropical Institute are housed, as are several biotechnology companies, such as Oncomethylome Sciences and AMC spin-offs AMT and Arthrogen. In order to accommodate more biomedical institutes and companies on the campus, AMC is currently building the Medical Business Park, which will provide 100,000 m2 of new space for laboratories and offices, as well as an incubator for start-ups. This concentration of expertise makes AMC much more than an academic hospital, and provides a breeding ground for fruitful scientific collaboration and business.

Company Profile

BMEYE is a technology-based company that develops innovative medical devices for the continuous non-invasive monitoring of blood pressure and cardiovascular hemodynamics.
Based on decades of fundamental technology and sensor research, BMEYE is committed to provide researchers, clinicians and patients worldwide with precise, robust, easy-to-use solutions for continuous, entirely non-invasive, cardiovascular monitoring
BMEYE Nexfin®monitors are designed for patient safety first: all measurements are completely non-invasive, with continuous data, no events are missed and with using our comfortable finger sensor, no needles, catheters or injections are needed. The precision of the Nexfin® sophisticated and robust methods provides a full hemodynamic profile with real-time data posted within a minute.

Science and Technologies or Services

Easy diagnosis, effective treatment
Patient responses to diagnostic cardiovascular tests, to interventional devices like pacemakers and to pharmacological treatment with drugs are highly variable and unpredictable, and are often composed of dynamic changes in blood pressure, vascular resistance, stroke volume and cardiac output. Today, their assessment is based on ECG measurements and intermittent standard upper arm NIBP cuff data that misses most if not all of the dynamics of the response.
Integrated continuous measurement of blood pressure and cardiac output in the BMEYE Nexfin® device allows easy and accurate diagnosis and effective follow-up of treatment, and provides the opportunity for immediate feedback to the patient on the effects of therapy and treatment.

Early warning, early and effective response
Patient response to anesthetic agents, cardiovascular drugs and surgical intervention is highly variable and unpredictable, and their combination often induces significant and rapid changes in blood pressure and cardiac output. During surgery, blood pressure monitoring, with the exception of less than 12% of patients who get direct intra-arterial blood pressure monitoring, is accomplished by using a standard cuff-based NIBP monitor, providing only intermittent measurements every 3-5 minutes. Cardiac output monitoring is even absent except in less than 4% of patients who receive pulmonary artery catheter CO monitoring.
Integrated continuous measurement of blood pressure and cardiac output allows early recognition and treatment of rapid changes in hemodynamics (where cardiac output changes usually lead blood pressure changes siginicantly in time) and provides immediate feedback on the impact of interventions for optimal patient management.

Unlike invasive A-lines and PA catheters, which carry a risk of infection or other complications, the BMEYE Nexfin® devices provide an integrated non-invasive solution for continuous blood pressure and cardiac output monitoring. In the OR today, blood pressure and cardiac output are the only critical parameters that are not monitored continuously on all patients. Heart rate, respiration and oxygenation are all monitored continuously and non-invasively for patient safety. The BMEYE Nexfin® technology allows truly complete, integrated and continuous non-invasive vital signs safety monitoring in all patients.

Company Profile

Finapres Medical Systems is the pioneer in non-invasive beat to beat hemodynamic monitoring using the Finapres technology for continuous finger blood pressure measurement. Its state of the art devices such as Portapres® and Finometer® can non-invasively monitor up to 15 cardiac parameters beat by beat, including blood pressure, cardiac output and stroke volume. The PC based Beatscope® SW facilitates on-line monitoring and full disclosure of both waveform data and beat-to-beat cardiovascular parameters.

Science and Technologies or Services

Continuous beat to beat haemodynamic monitoring is crucial for diverse clinical disciplines and academic research. The beat to beat variability in pressure and flow can provide vital information to clinicians and researchers for detecting any transient changes in cardiovascular physiology.

Finapres Medical Systems is the world's pioneer in developing, manufacturing and marketing state-of-the-art non-invasive haemodynamic monitoring systems. Its non-invasive beat to beat blood pressure monitor was first introduced in the late 1970s. This technological breakthrough was immediately adopted by leading researchers and clinicians in major medical institutions and space agencies around the world. The company has already successfully introduced its third generation of non-invasive beat to beat haemodynamic monitors, which are capable of monitoring up to 15 different cardiac parameters, and its products are being used in over 40 countries.

Company Profile

Genmab is headquartered in Copenhagen (Denmark) and has operations in Utrecht (The Netherlands), Princeton (US), Brooklin Park (US) and Stevenage (UK). From its Research & Discovery facilities in Utrecht, The Netherlands, the preclinical activities take place. After characterization and optimisation of lead candidates, the human antibodies are clinically evaluated by Genmab A/S, the corporate headquarter in Copenhagen, Denmark. This location also accommodates the regulatory and medical departments. From Genmab Inc. in Princeton, USA the US clinical activities are coordinated. From Genmab Ltd. in Hitchin, UK the UK clinical activities are coordinated.

Science and Technologies or Services

Genmab uses a combination of innovative technology platforms in multidisciplinary teams of biologists, biochemists and MD's. Antibodies, one of the body’s most important natural defenses, are proteins that seek out, recognize and bind to disease targets. A specific antibody directs the immune system to a particular target like a key fitting into a lock. It is this specificity that makes antibodies potentially useful in various therapeutic applications. Our skilled pre-clinical team, located in Utrecht, ensures that the best possible antibody candidate is selected to become a potential product. A panel of antibodies is generated and these antibodies are put through a rigorous series of laboratory functional assays designed to identify characteristics of the best therapeutic product.

Alliances

At present, Genmab has multiple partnerships to gain access to disease targets and develop novel human antibodies including agreements with GlaxoSmithKline and Roche.
