Company Profile
VisualSonics (www.visualsonics.com) is the leader in the design and manufacturing of high-resolution in vivo micro-imaging systems designed specifically for non-invasive small animal research. Our technology is based on ultrasound but, unlike conventional ultrasound systems, our Vevo 770™ system operates at extremely high frequencies (up to 82 MHz) allowing extremely high resolution (to 30 microns) required for small animal phenotyping. VisualSonics’ technology is unique; we are the only provider of ultra high resolution micro-ultrasound imaging systems for pre-clinical research. Our imaging system allows the small animal researcher and pre-clinical pharmaceutical researcher to perform an in vivo assessment of anatomical structures and hemodynamic function in mice and rats and obtain images and measurements. Those assessments can be made in real time, non-invasively and as part of a longitudinal study of the same small animal.
The Vevo 770 has specific application-specific scanheads and software for applications in preclinical cardiovascular research, cancer research, neurobiology, developmental biology and general phenotyping applications. The system – because of its high-resolution – is well suited for non-invasive imaging from early embryonic through to adult stages in mice, rats, zebra fish, chick embryos and other small animal research models.
Science and Technologies or Services
Cancer Research: In Vivo imaging for visualizing, characterizing and quantifying orthotopic and subcutaneous tumor growth and metastasis in mice and rats; 3D volumetric measurement in vivo of tumor growth; visualization and quantification of blood flow in and around tumors;Cardiovascular Research: In Vivo imaging for visualizing, characterizing and quantifying cardiac function, blood flow, wall thickness and related pathologies (ie. plaque, aortic aneurysm, myocardial infarction, etc) in mice and rats from early embryonic development through to adulthood;
In Vivo imaging for phenotypic research and non-invasive screens of small animals including verification and timing of pregnancies in mice, guidance of micro-injection and extraction procedures in vivo and general non-invasive, real-time imaging with resolution down to 30 microns.
