Company profile
Turnover
In 2008 total consolidated turnover was 600 million Euros, 195 million Euros was made available via government funding for development of new knowledge. Market turnover of 405 million Euros comprises 318 million Euros from contract assignments of five core areas. Dutch industry (42%), International (35%) and Dutch authorities (23%) account for the generation of market turnover. The other 93 million Euros market turnover was earned by knowledge commercialization or conducted through approximately 55 companies operating under TNO Companies BV and is the consolidated turnover of the group companies in which TNO has a stake of 50 per cent or more. In addition, there are 29 companies that have developed to such an extent that TNO now has a minority stake in them. This commercialization of knowledge receives no government funding and, for this reason, has been placed in a separate private limited company structure.
Government funding
Distribution across departments of knowledge development takes place through demand-driven programmes. Of the government funding 27 million Euros is earmarked for ‘knowledge as a cross-thematic asset’. This is knowledge development that is not linked directly to demand originating society or departments.
