Company Profile

The Sanquin Blood Supply Foundation is responsible for the blood supply in The Netherlands on a not-for-profit basis. Sanquin delivers products and services, conducts scientific investigations and provides education, instruction, in-service training and refresher courses. The Sanquin organization is constantly conducting research and developing new and improved products for therapeutic, diagnostic and research use.

Science and Technologies or Services

High-expertise research in the fields of immunology, immunohematology, cellular therapies (a.o. dendritic cells) and infectious diseases is being performed within the setting of the collaborative Landsteiner Laboratory of Sanquin and the Academic Medical Centre of the University of Amsterdam.  Most of the research is clinically-oriented.
The port folio of strategic research is focused at: hematology, hemostasis and thrombosis, inflammation and sepsis, blood transmitted diseases, and alternatives for blood products.

Recently the topsector plan Life Sciences & Health was published and presented to Minister Verhagen, of the so-called ELI Ministry. The document is an amazing compressed 60-pager, based on months of hard work by the group of experts chaired by Roel Fonville, and summarizes the conclusions after dozens of 1-to-1 meetings, five regional group sessions with dozens of opinion leaders and after having received over 170 (!) memo's, white papers and letters of intent.
