AMC is internationally renowned for its expertise in HIV, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders and gastroenterology. At its premises several dedicated research institutes such as the NIN (Netherlands Institute for Neurosciences) and the medical department of the Royal Tropical Institute are housed, as are several biotechnology companies, such as Oncomethylome Sciences and AMC spin-offs AMT and Arthrogen. In order to accommodate more biomedical institutes and companies on the campus, AMC is currently building the Medical Business Park, which will provide 100,000 m2 of new space for laboratories and offices, as well as an incubator for start-ups.
