Big impulse for brain research in Amsterdam

The Spinoza Center for Neuroimaging has received a grant of almost 8 million euro from the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRO).

With this fund the institute can buy advanced equipment for multidiciplinary neuroscientific research.

The Spina Center is a joint initiative of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience (NIN), the University of Amsterdam, the Academic Medical Center, VU University and VU medical center.

Recently the topsector plan Life Sciences & Health was published and presented to Minister Verhagen, of the so-called ELI Ministry. The document is an amazing compressed 60-pager, based on months of hard work by the group of experts chaired by Roel Fonville, and summarizes the conclusions after dozens of 1-to-1 meetings, five regional group sessions with dozens of opinion leaders and after having received over 170 (!) memo's, white papers and letters of intent.
