- Amsterdam University's medical centre said on Tuesday it is to lead a European project to develop an artificial pancreas for people with type 1 diabetes. The consortium, made up of seven academic institutions and five private companies, will work on the project for the next four years. It has been given €10.5m in funding by the European Commission.

- Trial: popular cholesterol drug fails to improve heart disease
- 31 March 2008-A study by the Dutch scientist John Kastelein revealed the drug Vytorin does not have any effect on plaque buildup, even though it dramatically lowered LDL. This is bad news for the producers Schering-Plough and Merck. The drug has a yearly revenue of five bilion in the US only.
