First 2010 LSCA Industry Day event held in April

The LSCA welcomed an international big pharma company for a matchmaking session. During this session, the innovative research taking place in Amsterdam, was presented in concrete and unique propositions.

On 28 April, Life Sciences Center Amsterdam welcomed a major international pharmaceutical company as part of our effort to build industry partnerships for Amsterdam research institutions. Our first Industry Day of 2010 included 9 presenters from AMC, Parelsnoer Initiative, NKI, and VU/VUmc, as well as 3 company attendees respresenting both early stage licensing and the venture funds of this company.

The purpose of these events is to present research capabilities and expertise in a manner that extends the possibilities beyond the lab bench, into drug development, screening, and diagnostics processess. Regardless of the outcome, these events have a number of valuable benefits:

  • They provide researchers with direct market feedback about the commercial potential of their research, in a direct and practical forum that differs from their traditional academicallly-oriented conferences and meetings.
  • They allow pharma companies to quickly screen interesting technology and research methodology from the Amsterdam area - a 'one-stop shopping trip' highlighting the combined LSCA diversity of research institutions.
  • They showcase spinoff companies, who may need venture funding to achieve the next stage of their developments, in front of pharma venture fund investors who are eager to invest in promising young companies with the right focus.
  • They create an ideal environment in which pharma-funded research consortia and strategic partnerships can be considered.

This wil be the first of many of these events in the coming years. For more information about LSCA Industry Day visits, please contact:

Recently the topsector plan Life Sciences & Health was published and presented to Minister Verhagen, of the so-called ELI Ministry. The document is an amazing compressed 60-pager, based on months of hard work by the group of experts chaired by Roel Fonville, and summarizes the conclusions after dozens of 1-to-1 meetings, five regional group sessions with dozens of opinion leaders and after having received over 170 (!) memo's, white papers and letters of intent.
