I amstarter

I amstarter is a local network of research institutes and technology-based companies, which offers beginning entrepeneurs professional support.

Stimulating new entrepeneurship in technology-driven sectors like life sciences, IT and sustainable technologies, I amstarter is managed by the technology transfer offices of VU University & VU University Medical Center, the Academic Medical Center and the University of Amsterdam. Local business partners provide expertise to the technostarters by evaluation, coaching and special fee-reductions for services.

This network is realised with help and subsidy from the Ministery of Economic Affairs: TechnoPartner Knowledge Exploitation Subsidy Arrangement (SKE) which offers public-private consortia, consisting of knowledge institutes and private companies, (financial) means to allow for quicker utilisation of scientific knowledge by techno-starters inside and outside the institutes.

Recently the topsector plan Life Sciences & Health was published and presented to Minister Verhagen, of the so-called ELI Ministry. The document is an amazing compressed 60-pager, based on months of hard work by the group of experts chaired by Roel Fonville, and summarizes the conclusions after dozens of 1-to-1 meetings, five regional group sessions with dozens of opinion leaders and after having received over 170 (!) memo's, white papers and letters of intent.
